How To Overcome Cross Dependence?
Overcoming addiction is not easy. When your body receives a drug of choice, dopamine is released from the brain which creates a rush across the body. When this substance is not given to the person for a longer period of time, he feels empty and needs something to replace it.
In many cases the person overcomes his earlier addiction but later becomes addicted to this new substance. This condition is known as cross dependence. Any type of addiction is not healthy for the body and thus, it should also be treated on time. Here are some ways by which you can overcome cross dependence –
1. Say no to everything:
Quitting something that you’re addicted to is the most difficult part but you can achieve it if you have the dedication. This is considered to be the most effective way of overcoming an addiction. Just quit everything all at once so that you don’t have to depend on other items. This will not only help to overcome your addiction but will also prevent you from cross dependence.
2. Learn to tolerate:
Tolerate your emotions and learn to say no. The urge to consume the drug is real but you still have to control this urge. Try to keep yourself busy in order to divert your mind. It will take some time to completely forget about it but it is completely worth it.
3. Seek a therapist:
If the condition is not in your control, then try speaking to a therapist who knows how to deal with the problem. Talk to the therapist and share everything with him. From getting medical guidance to finding the way to deal with your problem, a therapist is always ready to help you out in any condition.
4. Work on yourself:
Take care of yourself and look at what works best for you. Have a well maintained diet in order to keep your body healthy. Device a plan to keep yourself away from further addictions. Apart from this, you should also focus on maintaining a good social life. Drug addiction often leads to isolation from society. Try to go out with friends, make new friends and indulge in social activities to enhance your social skills.
